Privacy Policy – Oil Monitor & Oil Monitor – Demo

Oil Monitor saves user input data in the Documents Directory and User Defaults storage of the device on which the App is installed.  This is limited to the values saved by the user and calculated results based on entered data.  Oil Monitor does not collect any other information from the devise.  Transmittal of data is limited to transfer of archive files generated by the App containing information saved by the user on the App, or data refactored from these inputs, to the “Files” App on the devise.  Further data security has been ensured by the exclusive use of Apple® software products (Swift®, Xcode®) to develop this Application. No other, third party, programs are incorporated.

Terms of Use

The user agrees that whereas the results calculated by the Oil Monitor App may be useful in providing advanced notification of changes in engine performance or changes in oil consumption rate, supplemental to operating instructions published by the equipment manufacturer, the user will hold the App developer (Alex Best Consulting) or any agents (Apple®) harmless for the results of any decisions made, inactions or actions taken as a result of the information generated by the Oil Monitor Application.

What are unique features of Oil Monitor?

Users can record and retrieve details of oil level checks and oil servicing on a single devise.   For the first time, both sources of data are integrated to calculate consumption rates.  Rates can also be calculated using the traditional methodology of oil additions averaged over a selected running time.  

Consumption trend graphs are generated effortlessly based on a variety of user options.

Machine learning algorithms analyse oil servicing data to refine the relationship between indicated oil level and reservoir volume.  This data is then used in conjunction with oil level checks to calculate consumption values more accurately.

How many engines can I track with the App?

The app will store data for up to 3 engines, or other pieces of equipment, installed in one aircraft (or other vehicle).  Each of the three is treated independently.  So individual characteristics , specifically the reservoir volume relationships, are customised for each one.

Does the Oil Monitor have any uses outside aviation?

Any Marine or industrial application where fluid consumption, measured over operating hours, may be of benefit. 

How does the data archive feature work?

Users can select to encode stored data in an industry standard text format (.json) and export the file to the “Files” App on the device.  This back-up file can be stored locally or attached to an email for central storage.
